Aluminum Third Member
Aluminum Third Members
The Strange Lightweight Aluminum Center Section, with posi-traction differential and yoke, is recommended where torsional loads are minimal. The Strange loaded Lightweight Aluminum third member consists of the highest quality aluminum housing in the industry. The appearance of this housing is so outstanding that it is frequently polished for show car use. Also included are a Ford-style cast iron Daytona pinion support, clutch-style posi-traction spool, a Standard gear set, a Timken bearing/seal set, and an S-Series 1350 yoke with u-bolts. Upgrades include a Strange forged aluminum pinion support and a chrome moly yoke.
Strange Ultra Center Section is configured with a 206-T4, heat treated aluminum case, billet aluminum main caps, and solid steel adjuster nuts. With a billet aluminum tapered bearing pinion support (which positions both pinion bearings inside the center section case) the Strange Ultra Center Section provides optimum support while minimizing torsional flex. The oversize design of the rear pinion bearing, combined with a massive set of billet main caps, ensures that the ring and pinion gears retain proper contact – even under the most extreme conditions. Available in 3.250-inch and 3.812-inch bore diameters, the Strange Ultra Center Section is engineered to offer racers more options and can accommodate 9-inch, 9.5-inch, and 10-inch gears, with the appropriate pinion support. The 3.812-inch bore offers the option of a 40-spline steel spool with a thicker wall for the bearing journal. This eliminates the possibility of collapse under maximum abuse. A specially lightened version of the Ultra Aluminum Center Section (with 3.812-inch bore) is popular with NHRA Pro Stock racers who frequently use ball bearing pinion supports.
The Strange HD Aluminum Center Section case is expertly crafted from aerospace grade 206-T4 heat treated aluminum. Aerospace grade 206-T4 heat treated aluminum is substantially stronger than 356-T6 aluminum (commonly used in OEM cases) in both tensile strength and yield strength.
HD Aluminum Center Section massive main caps are constructed from billet aluminum and secured with chrome-moly studs. This provides optimum support for the carrier and ensures that the ring gear maintains position with the pinion, even under the most violent acceleration. Strange HD Aluminum Center Section pinion bearings are larger than OEM, allowing the pinion to withstand greater torsional abuse, while maintaining its position in relation to the ring gear.
The Strange HD Aluminum Center Section begins with this case. Once you have selected your flawless case, the skilled Strange Engineering builders go to work preparing it to your specifications.
HD Pro Aluminum Center Section Kits are sold with the 206-T4 HD Aluminum case, pinion support, pinion bearing races, support bolts, pinion depth shims, the tail bearing, and retainer plate. The pinion carrier is adjusted via solid steel adjuster nuts.
Complete HD Pro Aluminum Center Sections include everything that is in the kit plus your choice of a differential or a spool.
